Our take

Markdown writing & linked notes

Zettlr is a writing-centered option. Logseq has a different outline model and a beta database branch.

Which option fits your work?

Markdown writing

Compare writing and publication requirements, not plug-in counts.

Zettlr

Established project

Zettlr works with text files and a writing-centered workflow. It belongs in an Obsidian comparison when the main job is writing and organizing Markdown, not as a promise to reproduce every community plug-in or graph behavior.

What to check first

  • Check citation and export setup for your required publication format.
  • Obsidian-specific plug-ins, embeds and metadata may behave differently.

Logseq

Mixed maturity

Logseq centers on connected notes and outlines. The current repository labels the new database version beta and its new mobile app and real-time collaboration alpha. These warnings should not be hidden behind a general claim that every version is established.

What to check first

  • The project warns that the database beta can lose data; use a test graph and backups.
  • File graphs, database graphs and sync options must be evaluated separately.

Migration checklist

Open a copy of your notes and check internal links, attachments, embeds, metadata and export needs.

Representative test material

A copied Markdown folder with links, attachments, metadata and one plug-in-dependent note.

These are suggested test inputs, not guarantees that every format or feature is compatible.

  1. Work on copies of representative files.
  2. Complete a small real task, including export and delivery.
  3. Ask collaborators to check the result before migrating.

For personal use

Choose whether writing or outlining is the core task and evaluate that workflow first.

For teams

Agree on file conventions and plug-in dependencies before sharing the same knowledge base.

When to keep the original

Keep Obsidian when essential community plug-ins or existing note conventions have no workable equivalent.
